Sacramento County deputies are working a violent incident that occurred Saturday evening at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area as deputies were breaking up an unauthorized event of a crowd of several hundred.
Background
Deputies were first called to the Arden-Arcade park at about half past six in the evening after obtaining information of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Shortly after, a follow-up call was made regarding a possible fight happening at Howe Park.
Air support was sent to survey the area check here but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Nevertheless, it was apparent that an enormous crowd had packed into the park without authorization.
The Dispersal and Shooting
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by positioning themselves around the crowd and broadcasting over loudspeakers instructing the hundreds present to clear out. Approximately 15 minutes were allotted for individuals to vacate.
As the crowd was being cleared that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition were fired. Gunfire triggered a stampede. Law enforcement immediately began searching for victims.
Four People Shot
Ultimately, four gunshot victims were found to have been shot. The shooting victims — a group of one female and three male victims all believed to be in their mid to late twenties — were taken to local Sacramento hospitals. Emergency physicians reported that two victims were in serious condition, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one victim's wounds were minor. Thankfully, each of the four victims was stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District provided support and aided in treating the four victims before they were taken to the hospital.
Physical Evidence
Most of the gunfire was confirmed to have been concentrated adjacent to the Cottage Way corridor next to the local Home Depot at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. CSI personnel recovered extra shell casings along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were discovered in the iron fence adjacent to the Home Depot store. The physical evidence confirmed that at least one of the shooters had been aiming south from along Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. The Home Depot was put under lockdown during the incident. Crime scene personnel continued working for hours.
Detainees in Solano County
Information relayed over scanner radio traffic showed that a vehicle identified as a Kia was contacted by law enforcement in the Solano County area. Four occupants were stopped and detained. Law enforcement units were en route to collect those detained to return them to Sacramento for investigation. Footage analyzed by investigators made clear that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
